Dr Lanita Witt Holds Duck At Willow Witt Ranch Barn

The Crest is proud to announce the Lanita Witt Memorial Scholarship Fund

Community cooperation and assistance was of prime importance to Lanita, who died December 15, 2022.   Scholarship support allowed her to attend college, then medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, support she never forgot.

Join the community of supporters who are strengthening students' connection to Farm, Forest, Water, and Each Other.  This revolving fund will provide transportation and scholarships for students attending Summer Enrichment Programs at The Crest.

Sustainably Raised Local Meats

Selling pork and chevon sausages at Ashland Growers' MarketWillow-Witt Ranch is continuing our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program featuring pastured and organically-fed pork, goat (chevon), and chicken from December through May. The CSA concept "reconnects producers with consumers and empowers members to 'vote with their dollars' for ecologically sound, local agriculture by purchasing shares at the first of the season" according to Robyn Van En, organizer of the first CSA in the United States. Our members receive a box of frozen meat monthly, enabling those who want mixed meats or less than ½ hog to reliably access our products.

Prices

CSA boxed meatsPrices are for 5 pounds/month for 6 months, including eggs:

  • Pork $275.00
  • Chevon (goat) $325.00
  • Mixed box of pork and chevon $300.00
  • Add 1 chicken per month $120.00

Like our sausages? You can add on a share of sausage for $66.00; over the six months you'll receive a package of each of our sausages, three pork and three chevon.

Delivery

Delivery is on the first Friday of the month, beginning December 7, 2012.

As in a vegetable CSA, members receive a variety box as we choose the cuts; each box contains some premium cuts, some lesser cuts, a dozen eggs, and recipe ideas. We welcome your recipes, too. Unlike a vegetable CSA, availability is guaranteed as our meat is already in the freezer. If you've been with us for the last six months, you'll notice that our prices have increased slightly to better reflect our actual processing costs.

A small share in the Willow-Witt CSA is 5# of meat monthly for six months; a large share is 10# of meat. Eggs are included in all choices. Pork and chevon are packaged in one- to two-person servings; on request we can provide four- or six-person servings of each cut. Chickens, pastured and processed on-farm, are sold whole. A few cuts, notably ham and loin roasts, will be in larger packages...fit to share. Members can choose pork only (fresh or mixed with cured), chevon only, or a mixed box; chickens are optional with each choice. We require a six-month commitment with payment for three months at a time.
