Pastured Poultry and Farm-Fresh Eggs

To order, see order form below.

A Better Way

At Home On The Range

Inspired by Joel Salatin and other pastured poultry pioneers, we've decided to take our farm fresh egg and broiler operations to the next level.  2007 marked the beginning of our portable day-range and hoophouse system for layers and mobile open-air field pens for our broilers, giving them the benefits of fresh pasture and insects in addition to their organic rations.

A Healthier Way

Common sense dictates that a free-range, organically-fed  chicken tastes better than a typical factory farm bird, but did you know that they're better for you too?  Birds on pasture with access to fresh air and sunlight live a healthier life themselves, getting more chlorophyll from the grasses which translates into leaner meat and eggs with less cholesterol.  Each daily movement of the broilers allows pastures to regrow, with an added boost from nitrogen-rich chicken waste.  Combined with rotational grazing utilizing goats and hogs, our pastures remain lush and abundant.

A More Sustainable Way

Happy Chicks

Pasture raising chickens and our commitment to organic feed sources work together to reduce our impact on the land.  In addition, we're working with other Rogue Valley poultry producers to grow our processing cooperative, ensuring the ability for farmers to sell directly to informed consumers who want access to local food.  To read a neat little article about the Southern Oregon Poultry Group, Willow-Witt Ranch, and locally-raised poultry, click on this link Ashland Daily Tidings Monday, November 10, 2008 and read the Top Story Headline:  "Fowl Farmers Flock Together."

Our mobile processing unit has allowed us to help out at other farms, bring members of the community together and recognize each other as valuable resources instead of as competitors.  More than a few folks have dropped in to learn and practice the skill of processing the birds, and all over town families have enjoyed chickens straight from the farm.  Local processing and marketing is another great way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by shortening the distance your food must travel to get to your table.

Processing is getting faster and easier, and customers have had lots of positive things to say about the quality of our birds.

We have done well in the egg business this year, with excellent layers.  We have organic eggs for sale on a regular basis, $7.00 a dozen; call for info on delivery or pick-up.

Our pastured poultry is available through our Summer/Fall Meat CSA.  Or,  order your chickens early to pick up fresh the day of processing.  See ordering info below.

Chicken Orders 2010

Welcome to our chicken order hotline!

We take orders for our pasture-raised organically fed broiler chickens, stewing hens, and young roosters (think ‘coq au vin’) at this time of year.  We ask for a few decisions:

1.      How many of each variety would you like?

2.      Which dates work for you to pick them up? Multiple dates ok.

3.      Are you interested in learning and assisting in the processing?   You go home after a long day of camaraderie with a good lunch and a beautiful chicken.

How this works: we share poultry processing equipment with a coop of 12 farms.   We start the slaughter and dressing early in the morning and you arrive in the afternoon to pick up your PRIOR-ORDERED bagged, weighed, chilled whole chickens.  You can eat them fresh or freeze them whole or cut up,

Here are the dates for this year:

July 12                                     !00 broilers, possible roosters

August 2                                100 broilers, possible roosters

August 16                              100 broilers, possible roosters
